PRACTICE a new project studying motor adaptation to an AFO started

At the end of 2022 I, together with Elza van Duijnhoven, Merel Brehm, Fieke Koopman, Frans Nollet (all Amsterdam UMC), and Katinka van der Kooij (VU University) received a grant from Amsterdam Movement Sciences, to conduct a pilot project on how gait variability is related to motor adaptation with an AFO. In this project we will perform a retrospective analysis on previously collected data in the PROOF-AFO study. Additonally, we will pilot whether a specific variable gait training program on the C-Mill (an interactive treadmill) improves the adaptation to an AFO. Results are expected at the end of this summer, so stay tuned!

In the picture you see someone walking with an orthosis on the C-Mill (interactive treadmill, picture from Tuijtelaars, et al. (2022). Validity and reproducibility of C-Mill walking-adaptability assessment in polio survivors. Gait Posture, 96, 314-321.).
